Assemblies
At Valley Invicta Primary School at Aylesford, assemblies are an important part of our school life and contribute significantly to pupils’ personal development. They provide opportunities for our school community to come together, reflect on shared values and celebrate the achievements of others. Assemblies help pupils feel a strong sense of belonging within the school community and recognise that every voice and contribution is valued.
Our assemblies encourage pupils to think about their role within the school and wider community, develop their character and confidence, and share their ideas and viewpoints in a respectful environment. They also support the development of important life skills such as empathy, reflection and responsible decision-making.
Assemblies form an important part of our wider Personal Development provision, helping pupils to deepen their understanding of the world around them and preparing them for life in modern Britain.
Through assemblies, pupils have opportunities to:
- Celebrate learning and achievements both in and out of school, recognising effort, success and personal growth
- Explore and celebrate different faiths and cultures, including key religious festivals, helping pupils develop respect and understanding for the beliefs of others
- Promote the Fundamental British Values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs
- Encourage ambition and aspiration through visits and talks from members of our school and wider community, helping pupils learn about different careers and future pathways
- Engage with current events and real-world issues, helping pupils develop curiosity, awareness and the ability to consider different viewpoints
- Promote equality, inclusion and understanding, including awareness of the protected characteristics outlined in the Equality Act 2010
- Support pupils’ safety and wellbeing, including regular reminders about online safety, personal safety and strategies for maintaining positive physical and mental health
- Ensure pupils know how to seek help and support, both within school and beyond, if they feel worried or unsafe
- Strengthen connections with the local community, providing opportunities to share learning and welcome visitors into school
- Prepare pupils for important life stages, including discussions about choices, responsibility and the transition to secondary school
Through these shared experiences, assemblies help pupils develop confidence, empathy and a strong sense of belonging within the school community, while encouraging them to become thoughtful, responsible and active members of society.
