World Music Day
Miss Thompson led an assembly on Tuesday to talk about World Music Day which is celebrated every year on 21st June.
Originally the idea of American musician Joel Cohen who worked for worked for a French radio station in the 1970s, the idea wasn’t adopted until 1982; Jack Lang, a French composer and Maurice Fleuret, a music journalist who wanted live music to be available to everybody, no matter what their heritage or background.
The children learned about the many positive effects for our health and well-being of listening to music. Miss Thompson introduced the children to the musical terms pitch, genre and tempo and finished the assembly with a guess the musical instrument quiz.
